It’s That Time Again!

HE’S ALWAYS WATCHING, GANG!

WorkSnapz #04

Sometimes I find the most incredibly dumb shit hilarious.

See my handwriting in action in the latest installment of The Rack

A look, en media res as it were, at me inking the latest installment of The Rack.

That’s a Pentel Brush Pen, by the way. It’s got some Kanji on the cap. I forget its exact model name or number, but it rules the school.

Faces Of Newbridge Week 02: Vince

That's Where The Stars Sit!

This week’s new addition to the Newbridge Mythos is screenwriter Vince.  Always handy with the Gift Box and totally gross screenplay.

As always, learn more about Vince in the latest Best Show podcast and learn more about the Best Show at Friends Of Tom.

Two Thousand And Ben

So, it’s a new year and while outside my particular little world of whatever things haven’t gotten off the to the best of starts, but personally speaking, things are looking pretty great so far.  Me and my pals The Bureau Chiefs of @FakeAPStylebook have officially signed a book deal with Three Rivers Press for a book scheduled to come out Spring 2011.  This would be awesome enough, of course, but I’m also signed up to do a whole crudload of illustrations for it.  So it’s kind of a big deal.

On top of that, I’m hoping to do a lot more posting here (as seen in exciting new features like WorkSnapz and Faces Of Newbridge) and do a lot more work on personal projects, all while making The Rack the best damn comic book about a comic shop you’ve ever read.

So Mazel Tov, 2010.

(Apologies to Best Show caller Ben Karach [sp?] for totally ganking this term but whatevs)

Here’s a little peek at the pretty-much-all-rote-memorization-except-the-typing lettering process. And yes, eagle eyed The Rack fans will recognize that last word balloon, which is the template I use for literally every piece of dialogue ever uttered in the strip’s storied history, from the very first installment.

Check out the strip with Kevin’s real words right here!

Faces Of Newbridge Week 01: Chip

So, one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to draw more. And one of the things I’m always concerned with, drawing the same five characters more or less all year, that my overall flexibility and creativity when it comes to design might stagnate a bit. And I got to thinking, one thing that never stagnates is the constantly hilarious and amazing cast of characters that Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster cultivate and add to nearly every week on The Best Show With Tom Scharpling On WFMU.

So I figured it might be a fun project to take whatever bizarre misanthrope that checks in with Tom any given week and draw him.

I’m calling it Faces Of Newbridge.

This week’s installment features Chip, a deliveryman for the JC Bites franchise who also runs the grotesque website, www.yousuckdealwithit.com. Feel free to subscribe to the podcast to hear more about Chip’s frightening proclivities towards humiliating the tragic and sad.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show, those links are a great place to start, as is the delightful repository for all things Scharpling: Friends Of Tom.

Introducing an all new feature of this website, an ongoing photoblog of work on whatever it is I happen to be working on. In this instance, the latest installment of The Rack.

CBR Review: Siege #1

Image and video hosting by TinyPicLike Steve Rogers drop kicking the Red Skull out of his frontal lobe, I make my triumphant return to reviews for Comic Book Resources with a pretty loud bang: Siege #1

Thanks to the newest wave of Marvel’s writers, such as Hickman and Fraction and Remender, Marvel has become a much stranger place when the seeds for “Siege” were planted in a very young new century.  The kingdom of the Norse gods is currently hovering over Kansas and is about to get invaded by the Green Goblin in an Iron Man suit.  Volstagg just blew up Soldier Field.  As “morally” dark as “Dark Reign” might have been on paper, it gave birth to a whole lot of crazy pulp scenarios that were light years apart from the kind of grim stuff that came out of the immediate results of “Disassembled” and “House Of M”.  This makes “Siege” a much more widescreen and engaging work.  It’s just a bit too crazy to get bogged down in the kind of gritty moping that previous Marvel events often fell victim to, and it’s a much better read because of it.

(Naturally, I can’t go very long without talking about all the other writers I’m enamored with at Marvel right now.  C’est la guerre!)
